Honeydew honey or Forest honey is a type of honey made not from blossom nectar but from honeydew excreted by plant sucking insects such as aphids. It is usually produced from trees, both conifers and deciduous, although it may also produced from grasses and plants.
While the composition of honeydew honey varies by the type of insect and plant, just as the composition of blossom honey varies by the type of blossom, there are some common differences. In general, honeydew honey is higher in minerals and amino acids as well as higher molecular weight sugars in particular, melezitose and raffinose. Oligosaccharides are prebiotics that have a beneficial effect on bacteria in the digestive system.

Honeydew honey has very high antibacterial potency of both types: peroxide and non peroxide its antioxidant power is especially high. It has also high prebiotic activity. Honeydew honeys contain more oligosaccharides and have a stronger prebiotic activity than blossom honeys. Which contribute a lot to treating constipation.

Recommended Use

The rich mineral composition of honeydew honey determines its alkalizing effect, which is why it is recommended to sportsmen, workers and all activities related to exercise, to prevent muscle soreness and fatigue.

Generally recommended 15-20 grams of honey dew daily 1-2 hours before eating. The therapeutic dose can also be greater.

For the treatment of cardiovascular and liver diseases honey is taken dissolved in hot water – 3 times a day, one tablespoon, one hour before eating.

Storage & Usage

Product Storage:

  • Avoid direct sun light, the best place is cupboard or pantry.
  • The ideal temperature for storage is between 15°C and 25° C.
  • Should not keep it in the fridge since the cold makes the honey to crystallize.
  • Once opened, ensure close it again well to be preserved well and not lose their active ingredients.
  • Honeys tend to come with a date of consumption, although this date is only an indication that honey does not spoil. Over time it’s tend to crystallize but not spoil.

  • Can eat directly or add to water, tea, smoothie or drizzle over breakfast.
  • Makes a great spread on toast
